Week 3: Experimenting with notes.
Now that we have some ideas for a song let’s start thinking about making up a tune. We’ve decided to start our song using the chords of D and G so those two notes would make a good part of our tune. The chord of D major is made up of what we call a triad – that’s a fancy way of saying three notes. They are: D, F#,A. The D and A are very easy and the odd man out is F sharp in the middle. That’s the black note between F and G on the keyboard. All these notes will go really well in our tune.
You can use a different note for each syllable of our words. For example, if you want to write a tune to ‘LET’S HAVE a LAUGH’ you could put the note D on ‘LET’S’ then the note G on ‘HAVE’, then A on ‘A’ and B on ‘LAUGH’. But don’t take our word for it! Why don’t you pick your own notes and find a tune that YOU really like.
Good luck everyone!
